Backyard Putting Green

Many golf enthusiasts have put up their own backyard putting green. It is a convenient and practical way to practice their golf swings. It is also a way for them to invite other golf loving friends to their homes for mini golf games. It also adds polish to their homes. A backyard green has its many advantages. However, to be able to utilize the benefits of a backyard green, you must be a hundred percent sure that you have kept in mind the good qualities of a backyard green. A good, well-built backyard green must have a strong foundation so you can use it for many years to come. Hire a professional company to set up your green so you can be sure of it is finely built. Make sure to check the companies that provide the best services by asking previous clients or looking for feedback online.

One characteristic of a good backyard putting green is it has a challenging design. If you are planning on using your green often and for a long time, a flat putting green will not do. Ask professionals to incorporate mounds, pits and elevations to your green. This will also help improve your game because it will simulate the environment of a real golf course. Make your games interesting by adding two or three holes. Use putting cups as your holes so you do not need to dig. These can also add variation to your game because you can move it anytime you want. It also saves you the hassle of removing water or dirt from holes because they are not dug into the ground. Just put these cups anywhere you want and voila, you can start your game.

A properly maintained backyard putting green is also a good characteristic. To be able to see its design, you must keep your backyard green well-manicured. You can do this by mowing the lawn every two days if you have natural grass. It should be trimmed to a quarter of an inch to have a good roll. You should also properly irrigate and water the grass to keep it from drying out. Your grass should also receive direct sunlight or it may turn yellow. If you have artificial turf, it only requires minimal maintenance. You no longer need to trim your grass; you can use a leaf blower instead so you can remove fallen leaves and debris.

Having a good location makes a good backyard putting green. First, consider where in your yard you are going to build your putting green. Placing it too near the house can be prone to broken windows. On the other hand, placing it too far from the house may make it useless for some people. Place it a few yards from the house, away from windows or cars. Place it near entertainment areas of the house like fire pits or a patio. Make it accessible for all members of the family and guests. A backyard putting green is a great entertainment location and should be used when guests arrive. Also, if you are going to use natural grass, place it in an open space away from trees. Grasses need a large amount of sunlight to grow. Lack of water and sunlight can make the grass turn yellow, which is unhealthy.

The characteristics of a good backyard putting green should be kept in mind when deciding to build one. It will not only save you money, it will also make your surroundings beautiful. You can also enjoy your green for a longer period of time if it is built well. Many golfers have adapted putting greens because it is a good investment on their part. You can consult other people who have them for the things you should consider when putting up a backyard green. There are also many experts that you can ask regarding best materials and designs. The internet has a large community of golfers and you can find them on websites and forums. Feel free to equip yourself with knowledge about building a backyard putting green.

Backyard Garden

The tools and accessories used for fighting plant pests and weeds are of two kinds. The first is the equipment needed to afford physical safeguards for your flowers and vegetable plants and the second are those designed to apply pesticides and herbicides.

Protecting Your Garden Plants From The Cold

Of the first one of the most helpful among gardening implements is the covered frame. This frame is usually made up of a timber box, some eighteen inches to two feet square and approximately eight inches high, covered with glass, protective cloth, mosquito netting or insect wire. The first two coverings have, naturally, the further benefit of preserving heat and safe guarding your backyard garden plants from the cold.

Protecting your plants from freezing is a benefit that will enable you to plant sooner rather than later. You can use either glass or protective cloth extensively in getting an extra early and safe start with cucumbers, melons as well as zucchini and eggplant.

Simpler and easier devices for safeguarding newly-set fruits and vegetables, like tomatoes or cabbage, from the cut-worm, are stiff, tin, cardboard or tar paper collars, which are made several inches high and wide enough to be placed around the base and tall enough to be buried an inch or so in to the ground.

Protecting Your Backyard Garden From Weeds And Pests

For the purpose of applying poison powders, the backyard gardener may consider purchasing a powder gun. Though if you have to be restricted to a single tool, it will probably be better to acquire one of your hand-powered, compressed-air sprayers.

Compressed-air sprayers are designed for applying wet sprays, and at least one of the several types of mist-making nozzles will be included. The non-cloggable automatic model of compressed-air sprayer is the most effective. For further extensive work, a barrel pump, attached to wheels, is advisable, but any one of the above is going to do plenty of work in a short amount of time.

Extension rods to use in treating bushes and vines may be acquired for either the barrel pump or compressed air-sprayer. For the purpose of backyard gardening on a small scale, a sturdy hand-syringe can be employed, but as a general rule it will likely be best to spend a few dollars more and get yourself a compact tank sprayer.

Tank sprayers throw a consistent steady flow of spray and hold a considerably larger amount of the spraying solution. Whether you choose to buy a hand-syringe or tank sprayer, consider buying a brass one. Brass syringes and sprayers consistently out-wear those made up from more cost-effective metal. Such lower quality syringes and sprayers often succumb quickly to the corroding action of the powerful toxic compounds and chemical products used in them.

Other Backyard Gardening Tools To Consider

Of tools used for the purpose of harvesting, including the spade, prong-hoe and spading-fork, there are only a few being used in the small backyard garden, as most backyard gardeners do not need to plow long rows for being inexpensively used. The onion harvester accessory for the dual wheel hoe can be considered.

The onion harvester can also be used along with the benefit of loosening onions, beets, turnips, etc., within the garden soil for cutting spinach. Working your hand-plow tight on both sides of carrots, parsnips as well as other deep-growing veggies will certainly help extensively in getting all of them harvested.

For the purpose of fruit picking, with extra tall trees, your wire-fingered fruit-picker, attached to the end of any extended handle, will be of superb assistance, but with the present day technique of using low-headed trees it shouldn’t be needed.

A different class of gardening tool are the type used for pruning but only where this is attended to properly in the first place. A very good, sharp jack-knife and a set of pruning shears will effortlessly tackle all of the trimming and pruning work necessary.

Still another style of backyard garden equipment is one that is suitable for supporting your plants; stakes, trellises and wires for example. Altogether not enough attention normally is given this type of garden equipment, but with proper care in storing over a the winter months, they’ll not only last a long time, but add significantly to the convenience of cultivation and to the clean look of your garden.

A Final Word On Backyard Gardening Equipment

As a final word to the intending purchaser of backyard garden tools, I would personally point out that you completely look into the differing types of gardening equipment available. And when investing in gardening tools, keep in mind that a superb, well-made high quality product will undoubtedly be giving you good use for a long, long time after the price is forgotten. While a poor, low quality product can be a continuous source of problems.

Find superior equipment, and take good care of it. A few bucks a year, sensibly spent, for gardening tools that are properly cared for afterward, will provide you with a complete set of high quality gardening tools. And in all likelihood, doing so will increase your backyard garden harvest and enjoyment.

Backyard Patio Furniture

Outdoor Dining tables and chairs come in a wide variety of shapes styles, sizes, and materials to suit the needs of just about anyone.

Bistro sets are small tables that generally come with seating for 2. They are small enough to fit just about any size of patio or garden room.

Dining sets come in round, oval, square, and rectangular shapes, and often come with extension leaves for variable sizes. These sets generally seat from 4 to 12 people.

Bar-height sets, which come in 39-inch and 42-inch heights (as opposed to the 28-inch to 30-inch heights of standard dining tables), are made to seat 2 to 4 people.

In choosing a table to buy, the main things to know are how many people will you normally seat, and what style of chair do you prefer. Wide swiveling chairs or armchairs can take up to 25% more space than a standard chair.

Here is a short “table size-to-people” guide that can help you in your table choice:

* 30-inch to 36-inch-long tables seat 2 people.
* 38-inch to 48-inch-long tables seat 4.
* 54-inch to 60-inch-long tables seat 4 to 6.
* 72-inch to 80-inch-long tables seat 6 to 10 (even more with extension leaves).

Table and chair materials run from exotic tropical hardwoods, to powder-coated metals, to all-weather wicker. Always choose outdoor furniture made of a material based on weight, style, and most importantly, durability. Avoid patio furniture that will rust, splinter, or rot easily.

If your style of entertaining involves hours around the dining table, or you do not have another place to sit after dinner, buy dining chairs with soft outdoor cushions for extended comfort. Choose from contemporary, classic, tropical, or rustic cushion designs that fit your overall patio design.

If you need to move your patio furniture often to meet your space needs, lighter weight pieces are the easiest to move. The main drawback to lighter outdoor furniture is the chance of furniture pieces blowing around on very windy days.

If needing a table for a particular outdoor event, you can always use an indoor table, folding or card table, or a picnic table to help. Just cover the table with a thick tablecloth for a very nice look. A tablecloth covering a long table makes a great a buffet-style table setting. Or try using a quilted blanket to cover a picnic table.

As for picnic tables, they are no longer as drab and plain as they once were. Today they are made in a variety of sizes and designs, and actually complement patios and decks of all types.

Sloped Backyard

When I moved into my new house I was excited to finally have a yard of own to landscape however I saw fit. My front yard was a breeze to design and things seemed to be going great until I turned the corner and saw the condition my back yard was in. There before my eyes I saw a sloping desert staring back at me with a mean look on its face challenging me to a duel. I gave it a hard look back and accepted the challenge.

I quickly got to work pulling up the clumps of crab grass that were somehow managing to survive in the dry sloping sand. While I was working on the weeds I remembered helping my aunt tend her garden when I was a little girl and an idea popped into my head. Instead of spending tons of money and energy fighting my sandy sloping backyard landscape, I decided to make my enemy an ally and make some money in the process.

My plan of action was to plant a garden on my sloping sand dune and grow certain types of vegetables that needed a lot of sun and didn’t mind living in sand. My aunt always use to have me put her pumpkin vines on beds of straw to help keep them dry and reduce flat sides on the pumpkins that laid on the hard ground. Another plant I remembered helping my aunt with was her strawberry plants. Much like the pumpkins they do better in dry conditions and have less fruit rot when the berries are on softer soil. I planted my garden and added a few marigolds to give the garden an extra little dash of color here and there.

Over the summer my strawberry plants grew an abundance of big juicy berries that were quickly eaten up by my family. I saved so much money at the fruit stand it was well worth the few dollars I spent on the strawberry starter plants. As fall approached, my pumpkins grew bigger and bigger and a lot of my neighbors asked if they could reserve a pumpkin for their family. When harvest time came around I had a handful of orders and a big table full of extra pumpkins to sell. I made a pretty penny that Halloween and had a lot of extra money to buy candy for the trick or treaters.

Who would have thought I could find a Garden of Eden on a sloping sandy desert in my backyard. I am very happy. Me and my sloping backyard landscape have become friends. My family has even given the backyard a name and we all call her aunt sandy now. We love the delicious food she provided us with and our neighbors love her too.
