Inflatable projector screens can be just right for your backyard movie screen. There are many different brands, and models from cheap no-name screens to ultra-high quality premium screens.
There are 4 rules that you absolutely should follow when purchasing an inflatable movie screen.
1. Make sure the screen can handle the conditions it will be exposed to. Not all screens can handle windy conditions, or wet conditions. You will want to make sure that the outdoor projection screen you buy explicitly states that it can stand up to the elements it may be exposed to. Special mounting hardware may need to be set up.
2. Be certain the screen can inflate quickly enough. You do not want to be sitting around waiting for hours while the screen inflates. Most inflatable projection screens inflate using special fans which are meant to rapidly send air in. These mechanisms are not created equal so if you are unsure of how long it could take read reviews or check around on forums.
3. A black light absorbent border around the projector screen material is essential for the best picture. Some screens either have no border and end the screen right on the edge or the black border is the same reflective material that makes up most of the inflatable display. Ideally it would be made out of fabric, this is the black outline you see when looking at expensive projection screens.
4. Make sure the ratio of the display is correct for your projector. The ideal ratio for an HD projector is 16:9 and for a normal definition projector is 4:3. If you choose the wrong ratio there will be unwanted white space around the projector image so be sure to check this before you buy a projector screen.
